Florida PIP insurance explained (and what it costs)
Florida is a no-fault state. Every registered car must carry $10,000 of Personal Injury Protection (PIP), which pays part of your own medical costs and lost wages after a crash no matter who caused it, plus $10,000 of Property Damage Liability (PDL) (Fla. Stat. 627.736 and 324.022). PIP generally pays 80% of reasonable medical expenses and 60% of lost income, up to the $10,000 limit, and requires treatment within 14 days of the crash. A PIP + PDL-only policy is the state minimum, which averages about $1,224 to $1,672 a year (sources below).
